Fascinating word order rule by Google #NMT (EN>EL): It uses the "verb first, then subject" construction, which is more natural in Greek, as opposed to the English "subject first always". Amazon doesn't do it, resulting in correct, but awkward "MT-like" translations

  114. 03.08.2020 X

  123. 21.07.2020 X

Just to clarify: the enthusiasm was due to VERY low expectations for EN>EL. I used about 5% of MT suggestions. It's not much, but 50 subtitles is better than 0.
In other cases, I found ideas on a lexical level (also unexpected). Didn't do PEMT, as writing from scratch is faster. https://twitter.com/StavroulaSokoli/status/1283802371240460288

  124. 18.07.2020 X

Translators with experience in Machine Translation Post Editing are also experts in preparing texts that need to go through MT. Turning passives into actives, getting rid of redundant constructions, condensing. Some strategies are very similar to #subtitling
    #MTPE #PEMT

More strategies: Correcting and taking very good care of punctuation

  126. 16.07.2020 X

Using MT for subtitling for the first time and I'm loving it. So many things I can use. It's nicely implemented as a feature, as I don't have to post-edit, or use at all. It's just there as a suggestion for me to look at.

  127. 15.07.2020 X

There's a weird trend of people writing articles citing only one or two 2019 reference of a subject that has been introduced and discussed long ago. The authors of those 2019 articles based their research on these previous frameworks which are now obsolete and invisible I guess.

My strategy to deal with gruesome or extremely violent scenes when #subtitling is to use a different playback speed (x1.5). But sometimes the film director beats me by using slow motion with lots of blood splattering around 😅

Experiment in which 42 Spanish #blind and partially sighted participants were exposed to two diverging #audiosubtitling strategies: audio subtitles with a voice-over effect and audio subtitles with a dubbing effect.

Interesting thread on film title translation. Rarely the film translator's decision (though their suggestions may be considered)

Hey fellow #subtitlers. How do you use exclamation marks in #subtitles for the hearing? Avoid them as much as possible, and use only if they add meaning (e.g. sarcasm, anger)? Or every time the character shouts?

Some actors do their own #dubbing in other languages. Anybody knows orher cases like this? https://twitter.com/AdanTrad/status/1212535968596672513
