In 2013 the #blind community started asking Netflix for #accessible content. Technology was prepared in 2014 (styleguides etc). In the spring 2015 Daredevil was launched, at first without AD (a shame, as the character is blind) 2015=100 shows. Soon all Netflix Originals were ADed
Some TV programmes that have been #audiodescribed before are not available on Netflix with AD and that has to do with licencing content. Sometimes the sub-licenses do not know that there is AD. It's difficult for Netflix to know where the AD is and how to have access to it.
As for the future, synthesized voice technology will improve. Listening to Erica Kram on Accessible Netflix #RNIBConnect #TechTalk http://audioboom.com/posts/7057032-accessible-netflix-and-emails
The presenters comment on synthesized voices looking at advantages (cheaper, faster) but also wondering whether emotion would be lost. But then again, should there be any emotion in #audiodescription? Not sure whether there should be a bit. But eg. there is none in House of Cards
