At times when translation is more important than ever.

All reports agree that 2021 was a good year. There was growth across all spectrum of specializations.
BUT the rebound was much stronger for language companies than for independent professionals
All segments expect increase of prices in 2022. Note: this is in January, before the war in Ukraine.

Certification: ISO 17100 has no clear impact on company performance

It is important for professionals and students to seek industry information (my note: industry reports are extremely expensive, though)
Independent professionals cannot predict workload and this does not lead to a good work-life balance.

No surprises there: a very female industry

Independent professionals are very optimistic. Expect increase of prices as well

Opportunities and threats as seen by independent professionals.

Buyers seek advice from professionals. Quality is also important.

Translators seem to be doing better financially in 2021 compared to 2020

Technology use (I have objections in the definition of "tech" here and the categorization, putting "dubbing" and "TM" on the same level @joshea_38)

Competition for talent

Threats and opportunities from the companies' perspective

LSC staff and recruitment. Quite expected in times of growth. Surprising low percentage for language data and AI. Contradictory to growth opportunities.

Companies seem to be planning to do more of the same (intentions). Are they missing out on opportunities due to current/next crisis?
Entertainment, computer games are areas to capitalize upon.

My question: Should all companies use all these technologies on the right?

Language activities outsourced by Language Departments and Buyers

Providers cannot always use their own tools - this needs to be researched

Skills: Cultural awareness jumps out
