Technology has been enhancing performances for many many years. Actors whose performances were improved through ADR and voice replacement (West Side Story, My Fair Lady, and The King and I) won Academy Awards. The practice of altering performances (e.g. body/stunt doubles) in post-production is nothing new, but the ethics around it have always been debated. The issue is where we draw the line? If an actor’s voice, face, or movements are altered in post-production, at what point does it stop being their performance?
