Not sure this parallel quite works. It relies on objects that are too rigid (hairdryers, adaptors, plugs) whereas language and communication are fluid, always shifting. My favorite analogy these days is proteins, which change state depending on their environment.
I think what feels most off is the idea of translation as something like electricity coming "out of the wall" (it was somebody's dream 20 years ago). It strips away all humanity and communication.
