Aptly titled "Uncanny Valley", a new sci-fi film featuring elements generated by AI, will tell the story of a teenage girl whose life is turned upside down by a popular virtual reality game.
The AI-focused studio behind the project says "its models are wholly trained on licensed content [...] Marey, an AI model created by generative text-to-video startup Moonvalley. Moonvalley markets Marey as of the first truly 'clean' AI models due to it being trained entirely on licensed material whose original creators were properly compensated."
Given the vast amount of data large models require, it's hard not to suspect Marey is built on top of something less 'clean', no matter how tidy the press release sounds.
And the question is: If the AI-generated content involves replacing actors, how much does it matter if it was ethically created?
I guess if AI is used like any other VFX to change props and backgrounds, for example, then it makes film-making much cheaper and accessible to many more film-makers.
