I agree with Newsweek's "6 lessons for harnessing AI"
#1. Humans must be in control
👋 Duh, AI users have figured that out by now.
#2. Augment, don't automate
👋 Yep. I really don't understand all the "AI will automate repetitive stuff so that you can do the creative parts". GenAI is not optimized for automation. But it can work nicely within automation pipelines and #agenticworkflows.
#3. Pick tasks AI is good at
👋 You need to spend time to find them (and they're not automation). Hot tip: If you're skilled at something, keep doing it, don't outsource your strengths to AI. Use it for the things you're not so good at. This is very tied to #2 "Augment".
#4. Use AI to generate possibilities, not answers
👋 If you know the answer, it may take too much effort to make AI arrive at the same one. If you don't, too much effort to verify. Just skip it, use other ways to find answers
#5. Solve human problems
👋 And PLEASE don't create new ones so that you can solve them later. This is a message for champions of using AI to educate young kids.
#6. Embrace creative partnership
👋 Again, closely connected to #2 Augment. Use it as a stepping stone, not to replace yourself but to be able to do things you couldn't have done otherwise. Writing has been a cognitive offloading tool that let us do far more than we ever could orally. We've lost some skills, such as the ability to recite the Odyssey, but we've mastered others.
