Emptiness and shallowness have been around long before #AIslop (though it does give them a boost). And we don't need a list of buzzwords to avoid, no lexicon with alternatives (which beats the whole purpose of being original and authentic).

Being clear is a skill we can hone by (guess!) writing and interacting. And failing to communicate, or getting feedback - constructive or not.

Come to think about it, this abundance of AI slop is an opportunity for us to stop using empty words, to be clearer in our communication, to think about each word with love and care.

Academic writing helps a lot with that. Before using a word or phrase, I ask: What does it mean? Is it necessary here? Can it be replaced? Leave the text, let the idea soak. Write it on paper, come back to it. Or throw it on a pile with other papers.

And yes, use jargon, why not? It makes us feel part of a community, "we're in the know". Just make sure it's not all hollow.

Thinking about translation, how soul-crushing it is to deal with meaningless texts. Makes me appreciate it even more when a wonderful piece of film dialogue lands on my lap(top). Where every original word matters and I have to make sure it does in my #subtitles too.
